About English Tutor Toronto

Educational background and experience: My name is David Brodsky. I have a Bachelor of Arts (4 yr program) in Psychology from York University, and I've been tutoring English classes under the name English Tutor Toronto since 2014. I am currently offering private/group classes for the following areas

  • Grades 1 through 12 English classes for all ESL and non-ESL students

  • Test preparation for ESL (TOEFL, CELPIP, IELTS, etc) and non-ESL students (SAT, OSSLT, GMAT, etc)

  • Work document proofreading and support for all ages (resumes, cover letters, work and immigration documents)

  • ESL classes for mature students (out of high school, 18+) looking to improve their English fluency

Availability & scheduling: â€‹I am available every day between the hours of noon to 10pm for classes. Classes are scheduled based on mutual availability each time (when we both have time).

Homework policy: For students (not proofreading & work document clients), I try and provide at least 3 hours of homework to complete in-between our classes. This is homework that is entirely done for my class only. I ask that students complete this homework or spend at least 3 hours trying to complete it before scheduling the next class.

In person & online classes: For online classes, I use Google Meet.

For in-person classes, there are two options: North York Central library (5120 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M2N 5N9) study rooms or your home/place of business (I work all over the Greater Toronto Area).

Class length: Classes are between 1 & 2 hours in length depending on the amount of preparation required for them. High school classes will typically be 1 hour in length whereas adult ESL classes can be as long as 2 hours since they require less preparation typically. Class lengths will be determined during initial consultation.

Group vs private classes: I am trying to organize groups of four students per time slot. If we agree on cI am organizing small group classes whenever possible. If we start with private classes, I will try and add additional students to the class over time (assuming it works for everyone).

Online class pricing:

  • Private classes: $88 (classes are 1-2 hr in length depending on the student type)

  • 2-person group classes: $50/1.5 to 2 hr depending on the student type

  • 3-person group classes: $45/1.5 to 2 hr depending on the student type

  • 4-person group classes: $37/1.5 to 2 hr depending on the student type

Payment and cancellation policy: after our first phone call, the consultation/mini class is free. Afterwards, I will be asking for the agreed upon rate after the completion of each class. You may cancel and reschedule classes at any time with no penalties (though obviously, since I build my schedule around work, and do quite a bit of preparation for each meeting, I'd prefer more notice rather than less)

In person class pricing: for North York public library, add $7 (4-person) to $30 (private) to the above pricing scheme. For in-person at your home, contact me and let me know your major intersection, and I'll provide a price.
